[Roger ] "...said that the song, Eight Miles High,  was written while on a flight from the UK to the US. He wrote with band member Gene Clarke …"

By Paula Myers

MacWorld 2010, Moscone North Convention Center, San Francisco, 2/12/10. It is interesting that this year's Mac-fest did not include an exhibit from Apple Computer. Despite that situation, about 30,000 attendees were at MacWorld this year.
The aisles were packed with attendees looking at the various exhibits.  Many were eager to see the new
iPad.  Most exhibitors were selling their wares.
The most exciting part of the day was at 2:00 pm when they had a special variety show with
Leo Laporte (The Tech Guy) and Friends.  His guests included Roger McGuinn, founder, lead singer, and lead guitarist of The Byrds, Adam Savage, co-host Discovery Channel's MythBusters, Kiki Stockhammer (she wore a very tight low cut leather outfit) and husband Karl Miller of Warp 11, America's premier sci-fi rock band, and Heather Gold, comedienne.   The room was packed.

Roger, an avid Mac Computer user, said that the song, Eight Miles High,  was written while on a flight from the UK to the US.  He wrote with band member Gene Clarke.  Gene asked Roger how high he thought the plane was and Roger said oh around 30,000 feet or maybe 6 miles.   They thought they had the makings of a song so they chose 8 because of their love for the Beatles and their song Eight Days A Week.  The song is not about drugs as the media might suggest.
Roger and his wife, Camilla, also got free passage on a cruise ship because Camilla worked out an arrangement that Roger would give two lectures on the ship for them.
